[Video] Old footage of Dutch Royalty

By Manja van Kesteren

Today is King’s Day! The day we celebrate King Willem-Alexander’s birthday. This year, he will be turning 53.

King Willem-Alexander was born in Utrecht, as the eldest son of Crown Princess Beatrix (of the Netherlands) and Prince Claus (Prince of the Netherlands, Esquire of Amsberg). He became crown prince when Beatrix became queen in 1980, and he became king of the Netherlands on April 30, 2013, after his mother abdicated.

Here is a selection of very old clips from British Pathé showing the Dutch Royal family, including a teeny tiny King (then crown prince) Willem-Alexander!
