South Limburg's landscape is strikingly different to the more densely populated provinces of the Netherlands. With its hills, sunken lanes, and abundant castles, it's hard to imagine you're still in the lowlands. In fact, the region contains the highest point above sea level reaching 322,5 metres (1.058 ft) called the Vaalserberg.

South Limburg tourist board, VVV Zuid Limburg, commissioned this rather stunning aerial capture of the beautiful land that can be found down south. Filmmakers Joris Hoefakker, Mark Handels and Alexander Dohmen were adamant about producing something that would act as a gift to all its residents, and inform people of a place that is so often overlooked.

Having won the World Travel and Tourism Council's Tourism of Tomorrow award for Best Travel Destination in the World 2016, we reckon it's a good choice for a Spring weekend away.
