Van Gogh in Paris

Dec 10, 2012

The beauty of travelling nowadays is that you don't have to spend a fortune to have an amazing time and experience different cultures. If you have a keen interest in art, for example, you can now find many cheap trips to Paris to see all the beautiful sights the city has to offer.

Paris is home to many of the world famous Van Gogh paintings and with all the cheap trips to Paris you can find now, anyone can have an affordable trip. Van Gogh has a presence in Paris as in he lived there for a whilst and is known for painting pictures of friends, still life paintings as well as his famous scenes in Montmartre.

In Paris you can travel to all of the famous and historical places where Van Gogh painted when he lived there. Musée d'Orsay at 1 Rue de la legion d'Honneur is the museum where fourteen of Van Gogh's paintings are kept, including his well known painting of the church at Auvers-sur-Oise.

However, the most popular area to visit for Van Gogh fans is Montmartre. This area has many reasonable hotels close to the tourist areas with views of what Van Gogh would have based his paintings on. One interesting thing to note is that the area used to be full of windmills, and the only two remaining are on the street where van Gogh lived.

After Montmartre, the last place of interest when travelling in Paris is to visit the beautiful buildings of the Boulevard de Clichy, and the Pont du Carrousel. From here, you can see the Louvre in the distance, which Van Gogh painted from the left side bank of the river Seine. All the parkland and riversides that the artist painted are easily recognisable when wandering around these areas of the well known city.

The beauty of travelling is that you really can tailor your trip to your main interests and enjoy your own personal travelling experience. Paris is a great city, with many fabulous sights to visit, but for the keen artists amongst us, being able to see what Van Gogh saw, and also see his original works, it provides an amazing trip at reasonable prices.
