Non-stop party: 200 DJs try to break record for longest livestream

The show must go on! Nightclubs might be closed and big festivals and events may be cancelled, but that didn't stop these DJs from coming together in Alphen aan den Rijn for a 10-day livestream.

European DJs try to break Guinness World Record

DJs from the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, and France met in the city of Alphen aan den Rijn on Thursday, July 29 to set a new Guinness World Record for the longest DJ livestream. Broadcasting live for 10 days straight from DJ School Alphen, the event focused on the electronic dance genre hardstyle, which emerged in the Netherlands in the 1990s.

The brains behind the project, Amrish Raghosing - also known as Dutch Hustlaz - wanted to find a way to highlight Dutch DJ talent in the Netherlands, while also giving both famous and amateur DJs a chance to showcase their talents. “All clubs had to close again [this summer] and I wanted to do something to put Dutch DJs on the map," Raghosing explained.

Partying 24/7: 10-day DJ livestream

Millions of people from all around the world tuned in to join the party: “We had viewers from Australia and the United States. It really evokes a sense of community, which is special,” Raghosing told NOS.

After 244,5 hours of non-stop DJing - four and a half hours more than organisers initially planned for - Raghosing is counting on confirmation of his new record from Guinness World Records. This could take a while as, due to the coronavirus pandemic, official observers couldn’t be present at DJ School Alphen. Instead, they’ll review footage from 10 cameras that were set up on-site.
