Want to catch up with someone from your home country, make international connections or practice your language skills?

With KLM's Layover with a Local, you can meet up with a traveller who is in transit, have a drink and share your local knowledge. You could even win return tickets to their home country!

Introducing Layover with a Local

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines hosts thousands of passengers a day at Schiphol Airport, including transfer passengers who normally stay at the airport waiting hours for their connecting flight.

How cool it would be if they could enjoy a short trip to Amsterdam instead!

How it works

KLM’s free new service Layover with a Local connects travellers with local experts like yourself.

Locals pick up travellers at Amsterdam Central Station, take them for a stroll around the beautiful canals and enjoy a drink at a bar or cafe. The first round is on KLM!

How to be a local host

As a local you can be part of this experience. Meet up with a traveller, give him or her a glimpse of the city centre and enjoy good conversation over a free drink. What’s more, you will also have a chance of winning two KLM tickets to their home country!

Participating is easy. All you have to do is:
› download the app
› provide your availability
You’ll get a notification when a traveller would like to meet up with you. After picking him or her up at Amsterdam Central Station, you then head to one of the bars listed on the app.

Share your Amsterdam knowledge

The sharing economy is starting to change the world in a revolutionary way. It is not about consumption and possession any longer, but about the experience. That’s what Layover with a Local is all about.

Meet the world in Amsterdam

In return for giving a traveller an unforgettable Amsterdam experience, you can make new international connections, brush up your language skills, show someone from your home country the beautiful city centre or just have a chat in an authentic Amsterdam bar. The possibilities are endless!

Win flights to the traveller's home country

And there’s more: all locals who participate between March 22 and May 31, 2016 will also have a chance of winning two KLM return tickets to the traveller’s home country!

Pilot programme

Layover with a Local is in a pilot phase, running from March 22 to May 31, 2016. It offers KLM passengers from the USA, Canada and Italy, with a layover of six hours or more at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, the opportunity to turn this transfer into a trip.

Download the app

Visit the Layover with a Local webpage, enter your e-mail address and be the first to know when the app is available in the App Store. Sign up and get ready to make some new friends!
