With a long weekend coming up in the Netherlands and summer fast approaching, you might be expecting some sunny days and balmy temperatures, alas stormy weather is expected to make an appearance instead.
Dry spring in the Netherlands gives way to rain
Spring this year saw some of the driest and sunniest weather ever recorded in the Netherlands but a shift had to come sometime. While there have been a few sunny days this week, more rain will fall as the weekend approaches.
According to Weeronline, heavy showers are expected to fall from Thursday afternoon with wind gusts of up to 60 kilometres per hour. The temperature will be around 17 degrees celsius, cooling to 13 degrees at night. Friday will see the sun peek out from behind the clouds every now and then, but the chance of heavy rain and the odd thunderstorm will increase from the afternoon.
Dutch rain to put damper on Pentecost weekend
The Netherlands is getting one of those rare long weekends with Whit Monday on June 9 being a public holiday. While many make the most of the Pentecost weekend by going on a little trip or diving into the festival season, the weather is likely to rain on our parade.
Starting on Saturday, there will be regular rain showers, thunderstorms and strong winds, so anyone going to a festival should remember to bring a rain poncho along. Luckily, it won’t be too chilly with the mercury rising to a maximum of 17 degrees. Forecasts for Sunday are similar with rain showers in the morning and afternoon. However, wind gusts of up to 65 km/h will cool things down to 15 degrees.
Monday is lining up to be the break in the gloomy weather. While there may still be a splash of rain here and there, dry periods will dominate. As the week progresses, the rain will dissipate and the temperature will rise to above 20 degrees once again.
