New entry requirements introduced for travellers from 4 European destinations

As of Sunday, August 29, travellers arriving in the Netherlands from four European holiday destinations will be required to present a so-called coronavirus certificate before being granted access to the country. 

Dutch government's latest coronavirus travel advice

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced an update to the Dutch travel advice on Thursday, revealing that, from August 27, the following four European destinations would be classified as yellow (caution, safety risks) instead of green (no security risks):

• Austria
• Croatia
• Slovenia
• Sweden

Following the change of colour codes, the new entry requirements for travellers from the above countries come into effect on Sunday. The yellow classification means travellers arriving from one of the above countries must now present either proof of vaccination, proof of recent recovery from COVID-19, or a recent negative coronavirus test. 

Earlier this month, the travel advice already changed the coastal regions of Croatia from green to yellow. Now, the whole country is categorised as yellow.

Travellers urged to get tested upon return to the Netherlands

The new entry requirements apply to all travellers aged 12 or over. The Dutch government also asks everyone - even those who are fully vaccinated - to take a self-test after arriving in the Netherlands to ensure they are not infected with coronavirus. 

The coronavirus test must be a maximum of 72 hours old (PCR) or 48 hours old (antigen). The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also reminded travellers to be aware of any travel rules set by their country of destination, as these could differ from those set by the Netherlands.
