A survey conducted by research agency Ipsos on behalf of the NOS has revealed that the number of people in the Netherlands willing to be vaccinated against coronavirus has risen to 75 percent.
A survey conducted by I&O Research, also on behalf of the NOS, back in November revealed that support in the Netherlands for a vaccine was waning. Between June 2020 and November 2020, the percentage of people who said they were definitely going to be immunised had dropped from 43 percent to 29 percent.
However, I&O’s most recent survey in December already showed signs that support was once again on the rise. And, now that the first vaccinations have taken place and healthcare workers across the country are receiving invitations to book an appoint with the GGD, it seems that support for the vaccine is yet again growing.
According to the latest research conducted by Ipsos, which was carried out among a representative group of over 1.000 people, around 50 percent of participants said they would “definitely” be vaccinated, with a further 25 percent saying they “probably” would be.
Conversely, only 7 percent said “probably not,” 8 percent said “definitely not,” and 10 percent said “I don’t know.” According to the research agency, previous surveys they had conducted showed that willingness to be vaccinated was at “only” 69 percent in December, and 66 percent in November.
Interestingly, the research found that men were slightly more likely to be vaccinated than women. Meanwhile, those over the age of 55 were significantly more supportive of the vaccine (86 percent) than those between the ages of 18 and 34 (65 percent). The results of Ipsos’ research are promising as experts say at least 60 percent of the population will have to receive the vaccination for it to be successful in wiping out the virus.
