70 euros fine for cycling on sidewalks

By Anita Kalmane

Due to numerous reported accidents and complaints from citizens, associations and retailers, a new campaign about the dangers of cycling and (scooter and moped) driving in "hotspots" (sidewalks, traffic light intersections, shopping districts and ATMs among others) takes place this week (May 23 - 27) in Amsterdam.

Hotspots are identified by banners with the slogan "Fietsen of brommen op de stoep?  € 70,-  aan je broek!" and the fine is 70 euros.
