More unfilled job vacancies than previous year

By Anita Kalmane

According to Statistics Netherlands, there were 135 thousand unfilled vacancies at the end of March, an increase by seven thousand vacancies (previous quarter).

This increase is visible in nearly all sectors and has been growing steadily since the first quarter of 2010. The biggest amount of vacancies can be found in commercial service (79 thousand vacancies), while in the manufacturing industry there are far less vacancies (14.000). It was the first time in two and half years that the sector of non-commercial services saw the number of vacancies rise and now it is reaching 33 thousand, while at the same time the care sector has 19 thousand open vacancies.

On the other hand, the situation in labour market is more dynamic and in the first three months of this year, 197 thousand job vacancies were created.

It is also important to note that more people managed to find jobs as the amount of filled vacancies is 186 thousand, which is 10 thousand more than in the first three months of 2010.
