Museums in Delft

Paul Tetar van Elven Museum is a collection of paintings, porcelain and antique furniture on display at the former home of the namesake artist. Paul Tetar van Elven (1823-1896) was a painter and teacher of free-hand drawing at the Polytechnical School, the predecessor to the Technical University Delft. He was also an avid collector of porcelain and earthenware, an important point of note in the city of Delft, which is synonymous with all things pottery-related.

The Royal Delft Museum (Koninklijke Delftsch Aardewerkfabriek) is the leading producer of authentic Delft Blue ornamental earthenware and modern earthenware - in fact, it is the only Delft Blue pottery manufacturer left. At the Royal Delft Experience, visitors can discover reams of interesting backstories about the history, craftsmanship and innovation of this remarkable Dutch tradition.

Museum Prinsenhof Delft (The Prince's Court Museum) is a palace that has been a museum since 1911. It displays paintings from the 17th century and presents the story of the Eighty Years War against the Spanish and the role of the House of Orange during this period. The building was built as a monastery in the Middle Ages and later became an urban palace.

Vermeer Centre Delft (Vermeer Centrum Delft) is an arts centre dedicated to the work of the Delft-born painter Johannes Vermeer in the context of the city of Delft where he lived in the 17th century. It comprises reproductions of his paintings, audio tours and a light studio. Visitors can view replicas of Vermeer's famous artworks in chronological order and learn about his methods, to get a glimpse into the life of the Dutch painter.
