You may have heard of the province of Friesland, with its own language Frisian and its famous ice skating race the Elfstedentocht, but did you know that Leeuwarden, the capital city of the province Friesland, is the European capital of culture this year?
Leeuwarden will be celebrating this title all year long with events, exhibitions and more.
Friesland is not only home to the cultural capital of Europe; it has also been ranked third in Lonely Planet’s “Best in Europe” spots in 2018. It’s the first Dutch destination to end up so high on this list!
