The Gemeentemuseum Den Haag received the Turing Foundation’s biennial Turing Art Grant of 450.000 euros to organise the "Alexander Calder: Movement in space" exhibition in 2012.

The exhibition "will undoubtedly produce a vivid visual display that will fill Dutch visitors with pride" according to the Turing Foundation, a private charity based in the Netherlands with four goals:
› to enable and facilitate education for children around the world
› to protect nature
› to fight leprosy and aid its victims
› to let people in the Netherlands enjoy art

Alexander Calder (1898 - 1976) was an American sculptor and artist whose "extremely valuable and fragile work" has not been exhibited in the Netherlands since the 60s.
