Three museums in Amsterdam will soon be free to access by the general public for one day each month. A majority in the House of Representatives supported the proposal after the motion was put forward by the Labour Party (PvdA), already receiving support from Democrats 66 (D66) and GroenLinks.

Three museums to be free for one day a month

Three national museums in Amsterdam, the Rijksmuseum, the National Maritime Museum (Scheepvaartmuseum) and the Van Gogh Museum will soon be free to enter for one day each month. The proposal was put forward by Lodewijk Asscher, leader of the PvdA, and Salima Belhaj, MP for the Democrats. All parties, with the exception of the VVD and the PVV, supported the proposal.

The PvdA expressed that the state museums and their collections must be accessible to everyone and that ticket prices prevent people from visiting. It is not yet known when the museums’ free days will start.
