New measures have just been announced following a press conference with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, Minister for Medical Care Bruno Bruins and Director National Institute for Public Health and Environment (RIVM) Jaap van Dissel.

New coronavirus measures

The measures / advice just announced and in place until at least March 31 are as follows:

  • Work from home as much as possible or spread your hours out.
  • Events with more than 100 visitors are cancelled. This also applies to museums, theatres, sports competitions etc.
  • If you have a cold or any other symptoms, stay home.
  • If your symptoms get worse and you have a fever, call your GP.
  • Universities are advised to put lectures online.
  • MBO, primary and secondary schools will stay open.
  • Children who are sick should stay home.
  • Avoid large groups or visiting people with compromised immune systems and the elderly.
  • For vulnerable people (elderly/ sick), avoid public transport.

Extra measures for people in Brabant may be announced later.

Current coronavirus situation in the Netherlands

Of the 614 people who are infected, 273 live in the province of North Brabant and 80 in the province of Utrecht. According to the RIVM, of all the confirmed infected patients, 102 people work in the healthcare sector. The true number of infected people is most likely higher, NOS reports.
