The six Master's programmes offered at Radboud University Nijmegen in the disciplines of Chemistry, Biology and Physics are among the best in the Netherlands.

This was clearly demonstrated in a study carried out by the German Centre for Higher Education Development (CHE), which was published in the German news and opinion paper Die Zeit on Thursday 28 October. The CHE Excellence Ranking is an international ranking comparing education and research merits of universities. Six Radboud University Master's programmes were included in the CHE excellence ranking: Chemistry and Molecular Life Sciences (discipline of Chemistry), Biology and Medical Biology (discipline of Biology) and Natural Science and Physics and Astronomy (discipline of Physics).

You have to be good to start with
The CHE excellence ranking identifies outstanding disciplines rather than universities. Universities are invited to participate on the basis of the quality of a discipline, which is determined by a preliminary selection committee. A programme must therefore be good to start with in order to participate.

The final ranking is based on the results of the preliminary selection, a survey among students following the Master's and Research Master's programmes, a questionnaire to provide factual information about the institution, and an examination of relevant publications.

Twice in second place, once in third
Radboud University gained 18 above-average scores in the discipline of Chemistry putting it in joint second place among the seven selected Dutch universities, right behind the Eindhoven University of Technology.

In the disciplines of Biology and Physics, Radboud University achieved excellent scores as well, with a joint second place (together with Wageningen University, behind the University of Groningen) and 11 above-average scores, and a third place (behind Groningen and Delft University of Technology) and 13 above-average scores respectively.
