Networking at the Summit: Making high-level business connections, in the international business language of English.

Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM) is world-famous for its management research and for its business and management programmes, including its Financial Times top-ranked MBA and Executive Education programmes. "Our faculty are thought leaders in such areas as integrity, behavioural ethics, and innovation; and members of our Advisory Board represent a network of contacts at the highest level of business," says Dean George Yip, whose strategy for the school has included a real emphasis on presenting research with business relevance.

RSM has also become a hub for high-profile events such as its Journeys with Erasmus conference and debate series, and its annual Leadership Summit, that bring together the highest level of international business practitioners - CEO's COO's, CFO's and Directors of major multinationals - with alumni, students and the international business community.

“In the wake of the financial crisis, we've had more call to present these events, particularly those dealing with the real uncertainty managers are dealing with in a more complex business environment," says Theo Backx, former Sony executive and current Executive-in-Residence at RSM.

One such event, offering a 360-degree view of the new world of business, is RSM’s Leadership Summit: Winning Strategies in the New Business Landscape to be held on 8 October 2010. The annual Leadership Summit, taking place at the World Trade Center in Rotterdam, represents a premier opportunity for expats to connect with others in the international business community. Keynote speakers will be sharing their ideas on winning at the new game and will include:

› Egbert van Acht on The Changing Consumer.
The global economic downturn has resulted in changes in consumer preferences, spending as well as behaviour. Egbert van Acht, Executive VP Business Unit Health and Wellness, Philips Consumer Lifestyle, will describe how this phenomenon has influenced the strategies of his company.

› Mark E.M. Elborne on Global Reverse Innovation at GE.
Mark Elborne, President and CEO of General Electric (GE) UK, Ireland and Benelux will describe how GE is using what the company calls “reverse innovation” to rapidly accelerate growth in global and emerging markets. Rather than follow the traditional model of developing high-end products and adapting them for emerging markets, GE is developing local technologies in emerging economies and then distributing them globally.

› René Hooft Graafland on Managing the short term and the long term performance.
The markets expect companies to have strong performance over the short term while they also expect the companies to have sustainable performance over the years. Managing the expectations in different time horizon can be very challenging especially during a global economic downturn. René Hooft Graafland, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) & Member of the Executive Board at Heineken, will share his perspectives with the audience in relation to this topic.

› Chris Zook on Profitable Growth in Turbulent Times.
Best-selling author Chris Zook, whose 'strategy trilogy, published by Harvard Business Press – Profit from the Core, Beyond the Core, and Unstoppable – have provided a blueprint to find new sources and means of business growth. Mr Zook is Director of Bain & Company, heading up Worldwide Strategy Practice. Zook will share his latest research regarding profitable growth in turbulent times.
