Social security in the Netherlands
There are some mandatory costs you must pay when you are working and living in the Netherlands. The Netherlands is a welfare state, so specific premiums need to be paid.
Examples of premiums:
- The Dutch pension system (AOW)
- Unemployment Insurance (WW)
- The Sickness Benefits Act (Ziektewet)
- The Surviving Dependents Act (ANW)
- The Exceptional Medical Expenses Act (AWBZ)
These premiums are deducted from your gross salary on a monthly basis. However, the costs are lower if you are benefitting from the 30% ruling!
Exceptional benefits for expats: The 30% ruling
Did you know that as a contractor with a fixed daily/hourly rate you receive more net pay if you use the 30% ruling? By using the 30% ruling, you will only have to pay income tax on 70 percent of your gross salary. Dutch Umbrella Company knows exactly how to make the most of this ruling.
A number of criteria must be met in order to qualify for the 30% ruling:
- You must work in the Netherlands.
- Your employer must demonstrate that the specific skills you bring to the role are not to be found in the Dutch labour market.
- You must have a valid work permit.
Together with your employer, you must submit an application to the Tax and Customs Administration of the Netherlands. You can make use of the regulation for a maximum period of 8 years.
Want to arrange this quickly and conveniently? Naturally, the Dutch Umbrella Company can assist you.
