Designing your ideal home in the Netherlands31 October 2016, by IamExpat Spotter
So you are buying your first home in the Netherlands. But once the excitement has settled, you realise how much work there is to do.
A new kitchen, bathroom, remodelled bedrooms... even entirely new floors and walls. In the Netherlands, houses are often sold entirely gutted, leaving you with a clean slate but nowhere to sleep.
It’s at this point you realise that a trip to Ikea probably won’t cut it. Time to find a professional? Meet interior architect Rob Guillonard.
About Design Studio Rob Guillonard

Interior architecture for all situations
Using a friendly approach, and by putting themselves in your position, the studio seeks the right solution for you, creating plans with an eye for dimensions, details, material and colour.
The services are entirely flexible. If you already have a contractor and only want a sketch plan or construction planning, they are more than happy to offer that. If, however, you need them to take care of the whole project, the studio is well equipped to do that too.
The design process
You start the process with an obligation-free initial meeting, just to talk through some ideas. Then, based on what you are looking for (and your budget) the architects will draw up a sketch plan.
After further discussion, any modifications you would like are incorporated into the final plan, from which detailed drawings are made.
The studio then proposes colours and materials, and designs a light and electricity plan.

Project management also available
The studio is able to make a job description or specification, monitor budget and schedule, and tender out the jobs to external contractors such as design engineers, carpenters and landscape architects.
The studio can also take care of the environmental permit application process for new construction or expansion plans.
Then they build it, and after that you can move in! Much easier than trying to do it all yourself.
