The MBA student life in Amsterdam

Paid partnership

Many international students flock to Amsterdam to boost their careers. And it’s not hard to see why. It is a city with a rich history and culture, a vibrant nightlife, and you don’t even need to speak Dutch to be able to get around. Furthermore, many international companies have an office in Amsterdam, so there is a large expat community that will make you feel right at home!

The perks of studying in Amsterdam

Why should you study an MBA in Amsterdam? Well, let's sum it up:

Large international community

Amsterdam is a multi-cultural hotspot, home to many different nationalities and cultures. Fitting in may be easier than you think.

Easy accessibility to other European cities

Via Schiphol Amsterdam airport, you can easily access all major European cities. And train station Amsterdam Centraal offers connections to several international destinations, including London, Berlin and Paris.

English is widely spoken

English is a compulsory subject in school for Dutch children, so many Dutch people speak the language well. Also, many Dutchies love to show off their English language skills, so don’t be surprised if they start a conversation with you once they learn you are a non-native.

Many international companies

The Netherlands, and Amsterdam especially, is home to a lot of multinational companies, such as Booking.com, Tesla Motors, TOMTOM and Philips. Some of these were founded in the Netherlands, while others have established offices in the country. Amsterdam’s start-up scene is also booming, with many of the start-ups being multinational.

Furthermore, the Netherlands might house more international companies soon, as Brexit, and its consequences, is looming.

Modern student accommodation available throughout the city

International students usually don’t have a problem finding student accommodation in Amsterdam. A good example of modern student accommodation in Amsterdam is Campus Diemen Zuid, which features contemporary studio apartments from 27m2 to 56m2.

Mamta Bijlani, 26, gives us the inside scoop on what it is like to be an MBA student at Nyenrode Business Universiteit in Amsterdam:

Where are you from?

I am from Mumbai, India.

Why did you choose to follow the one-year Full-time MBA Program at Nyenrode?

I am a telecommunications engineer with 3,5 years of work experience at Accenture Solutions Pvt Ltd. However, I want to make a career shift from tech to business and gain some international exposure.

Looking at past records and speaking to the alumni of Nyenrode, I got to know the truly international nature of the program. People from over 19 different countries are studying here. What appealed to me the most was the course structure, with its immersion module and multiple industry visits.

Along with academic knowledge, Nyenrode has provided first-hand experience of the industry life, enabling me to make informed career decisions. The Nyenrode experience is enriching and the university is renowned for its alumni base and network. These reasons convinced me to join the course.
