Nyenrode Business University, the Netherlands' only private university, referred to Chandrasekaran’s "relentless focus on delivering value to global businesses, his stakeholders and local communities around the world."

In conferring the degree, professor for International Business Strategy Désirée van Gorp said Chandrasekaran was an inspiration. "He is a true advocate of corporate stewardship, and this is demonstrated by the refined sustainability programme at TCS, which focuses on education, environment and wellness."

In response, Chandrasekaran said "it is a great privilege for me to have this honour conferred on me by a university with such a proud heritage of having produced some of this country's finest business leaders.

"At Tata Consultancy Services, it has always been a priority for us to focus on the twin paths to achieving industry-leading business excellence and working sustainably in the communities where we operate."
