New NS service: A train every 10 minutes between Rotterdam and Schiphol
From Wednesday, the Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS) is running its new every-10-minutes train services between Rotterdam and Schiphol, and Schiphol and Nijmegen. The new routes will run every Wednesday as part of a 14-week trial.
Regular trains between Rotterdam and Schiphol Airport
The new services will see an Intercity train run every 10 minutes, travelling from Rotterdam Centraal to Schiphol Aiport, via Delft, The Hague HS and Leiden, in only 50 minutes. More regular services will also run between Schiphol, via Amsterdam and Utrecht, to Nijmegen.
Following the trial, NS will switch to its December 2021 timetable, which will see the new 10-minute trains fully launch as part of the rail company’s official routes. In a statement, NS said the more regular services ensure travellers no longer have to double-check train times: “[Going] from four to six Intercity trains an hour means less waiting time and more seats.”
NS and ProRail improving rail connectivity in the Netherlands
NS and ProRail - a government organisation that takes care of maintaining and extending the national railway network infrastructure - are working together to increase rail capacity and improve overall rail connectivity in the Netherlands.
In 2017, the first 10-minute train was launched between Amsterdam and Eindhoven, offering trains between the two Dutch cities every 10 minutes. A 10-minute Sprinter route is also launching between Rotterdam and Dordrecht - the first 10-minute Sprinter in the Netherlands.
