About the Comedytrain International Summer Festival 2024

Every year during the Comedytrain International Summer Festival, the Toomler Comedy Club invites various famous English-speaking stand-up comedians to grace their stage in Amsterdam and make the audience rock with laughter.

Top talents from the UK, America, South Africa and Canada take turns performing in duos on two consecutive nights each. This sensational festival knocks viewers’ socks off for a full month.

Comedytrain International Summer Festival 2024 line-up

The festival promises to once again be a highlight for stand-up comedy enthusiasts who like to be surprised by the wide range of styles and personalities. This year's line-up is a more extensive and varied group of twelve international comedians, carefully selected by booker Stefan Pop. Known for his keen eye for new talent, Stefan manages to spot comedians time and time again before they break through to the big stages.

"It's great to see how comedians who performed with us at the festival later break through worldwide and become big names in the comedy world," said Pop. "We have had artists such as Ali Wong, Hannah Gadsby, Trevor Noah and Andrew Schultz here in the past. The fact that we were able to present them here before they made their breakthrough makes us proud and shows that we have a nose for talent."

Laugh out loud with some of the big names at the festival this year, including many that you will have seen on TV such as Taskmaster's Sophie Duker who is one of the comedians opening the festival - expect an acerbic wit and some forthright opinions. Nick Griffin, who has appeared on various popular late-night television shows such as The Late Late Show, joins Duker as one of the first acts to take to the stage. A comic for more than 25 years, Griffin’s smart, sarcastic and hilarious style makes him one of the most well-respected in the business.

Alternative-comedy circuit perennial Paul Foot is also attending, who has appeared on Would I Lie To You?Never Mind the Buzzcocks and 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown. Sam Nicoresti is also a name to watch, having gained a reputation for strange and surreal one-man plays and shows that don't quite fit into any category.

Here is the current line-up for 2024:

Nick Griffin & Sophie Duker

With Nick and Sophie, Toomler has paired an American veteran and an emerging British talent!

Ahir Shah & Nick Griffin

Together they are actually too big for their small club, but the club is so happy that Ahir Shah is visiting them before he becomes super famous in the UK!

Alfie Brown & Pierre Novellie

South Africa has a warm place in the club's heart with first performances by Trevor Noah and last year with Tumi Morake. Now here is Pierre Novellie together with British talent Alfie Brown.

Alfie Brown & Garrett Millerick

Alfie Brown's material touches on introspective thoughts and considerations of the human condition as well as broader observations on social-political issues. All done in an accessible and hilarious way!

Jacob Hawley & Sam Nicoresti

Sam Nicoresti 2022 best new comedian in the UK and last year's best club MC. Prizes don't mean everything, but the speed at which he wins them is very high.

Lee Peart & Sam Nicoresti

Proof that there are more flavours than white heterosexual alpha comedians who can turn a room upside down.

Mary O'Connell & Paul Foot

Paul Foot is the only name this year who has been before. Why? Because you book Paul Foot if he is available!

Kate Barron & Mary O'Connell

The festival closes with these two powerhouse women: Kate from Canada and Mary from the UK who are both hilarious, standout talents - Exactly what the festival is for!

About Toomler Comedy Club and Comedytrain

Comedytrain is the name of the collective of comedians. Comedytrain has been the hallmark of stand-up comedy in the Netherlands for almost thirty years. At its home base Toomler in Amsterdam, talent is offered a stage to try out ideas and lay the foundation for the next steps in their comedy career. Or where renowned names return to be inspired by new talents when creating new material.

All Comedytrain comedians decide as a group about the ins and outs of their home comedy club, Toomler. Many comedians found their way to a solo career here.

Henry van Loon, Ronald Goedemondt, Hans Teeuwen, Peter Pannekoek, Theo Maassen, Patrick Laureij and Soundos El Ahmadi are examples of comedians who started in Toomler and then achieved success with their own theatre shows. Many comedians have now proven themselves on the Toomler stage and joined Comedytrain. Under the heading comedians, you will find all members of the collective.
