AnimeCon is an annual anime convention in the Netherlands. This 52-hour fan convention features Japanese movies, video games, characters and merchandise.
For three days in June in Rotterdam, the thrilling AnimeCon programme brings you an impressively wide variety of activities which set it apart from other conventions of its kind! Run by the Foundation for the Promotion of Japanese Pop Culture, or J-Pop, it is the largest Japan-related event in the Netherlands.
Costumes and cosplay at AnimeCon
For this year's Animecon, which marks the 21st edition of the event, the theme is "AnimeCon Goes South". There are now over 17 countries participating.
There are all sorts of activities centred around costumes, whether you buy, borrow or make costumes yourself. You can get tips on specific elements of costumes such as footwear, or how to pose for better photos to bring out the best of your costume and how to take better portraits with limited time for a photoshoot. For the fifth year running, AnimeCon will feature a cosplay competition. The term “cosplay” originated in Japan in the 1980s, inspired by conventions like this one.
Many diverse events
You will not have a chance to get bored at AnimeCon, as there will be karaoke, an escape room, talks, workshops, lectures, concerts, food and drinks, speed dating, a pub quiz, an animation workshop for aspiring anime artists, whiskey tasting, and even prop-making.
