Movies that Matter

Movies that Matter follows in the footsteps of the Amnesty International Film Festival. It offers a platform for movie and documentary makers who create works that deal with human rights and social justice issues. In addition to offering 70 screenings of both fiction films and documentaries, the Movies that Matter Festival has an array of debates, talk shows and special international guests.

This year’s festival

This year’s festival will include a number of new events that allow visitors to attend midnight screenings, to see various interesting short films and to hear fascinating true stories in a multimedia programme. The festival will also feature musical performances, a photographic exhibition, masterclasses and more.

Some of this year's highlights are:

  • Hooligan Sparrow | Nanfu Wang
  • A Sinner in Mecca | Parvez Sharma
  • They will have to kill us first | Johanna Schwartz
  • Krigen | Tobias Lindholm
  • Deep Web | Alex Winter
  • Guantanamo’s Child | Patrick Reed, Michelle Shephard
  • Der Staat gegen Fritz Bauer | Lars Kraume

Please note: Ticket competition winners are announced on the closing date. Each winner will receive a multi-ticket for one person that allows you access to six screenings. Remember to check this page or your IamExpat inbox to see if you've been selected!
