About 5 Days Off

The 5 Days Off music festival has been presenting both established and budding electronic acts since 2001.

Having hosted a diverse array of acts including Daft Punk, The Gaslamp Killer, SBTRKT and James Holden, 5 Days Off manages to remain grounded and offer a curated mix of avant-garde and mainstream electronic music styles.

Initially only a music festival, the programme has now expanded to include events related to photography, film, fashion, media art and graphic design over three of Amsterdam's cultural linchpins: Melkweg, Paradiso and De Balie.

Please note: Ticket competition winners are announced on the closing date. Remember to check this page or your IamExpat inbox to see if you've been selected!

Darkstar: Dream-like Electro

Beginning with production duo James Young and Aiden Whalley, Darkstar originally made progressive-dub tracks which they released via their own label 2010 records.

As their buzz grew, the pair released notable tracks including Need U and Aidy's Girl is a Computer on the Hyperdub imprint.

In late 2009, Darkstar switched their sound and began creating tracks with vocalist James Buttery, who featured on the LP North. At this point, Buttery became a staple and official member of the group.

The trio released their second LP News from Nowhere to critical acclaim for its dream-pop melodies and blending indie song structures with electronic/dub influences.
