This, however, brings her into conflict with the school board and she is threatened with suspension.
About Que Horas Ela Volta?
Anna Muylaert | Brazil | Wednesday, August 19 - 9.15pm
This heart-warming, award-winning story is about snobbery, class differences and empowerment. Val is the live-in housekeeper for a wealthy family in São Paulo. One day, her daughter Jessica calls to let Val know that she will come and live with her for a while. Val welcomes her daughter with open arms, but is mortified when Jessica refuses to conform to the status quo.
Que Horas Ela Volta? has won many awards, including the C.I.C.A.E. Award at the Berlinale and the Special Jury Prize at Sundance.
About Necktie Youth
Sibs Shongwe-La Mer | South Africa | Wednesday, August 19 - 9.30pm
Boredom, booze and antidepressants dominate the lives of the poor rich kids of Sandton, a posh suburb of Johannesburg in the wealthiest part of Africa.
The 19-year-old Emily hangs herself in her parents’ garden. But why? Director Sibs Shongwe-La Mer shows how Emily’s friends react to her suicide. The first post-apartheid generation has its own problems in Necktie Youth.
