Details

The Dutch & Their Bikes is a hardcover book by Shirley Agudo published in 2014 consisting of 352 pages and about 700 photographs.

About The Dutch & Their Bikes

The Dutch & Their Bikes is first and foremost a visual homage to a country that has adopted bicycling like no other.

Through almost 700 photographs, Shirley Agudo has worked to document the various scenes of everyday cycling culture from around the Netherlands.

What results is a beautiful portrait of life on a bike, including the transportation of children, riding with animals, the various fashion seen atop two wheels and the infrastructure that makes the Netherlands so special when it comes to cycling.

In addition to the photographs, the book is punctuated with essays, facts and quotes to help the reader better understand the history of the bicycle, its role in Dutch culture and why it has become such a beloved form of transportation in the Netherlands.
