History of the building:
The water tower from 1875 to a design by city architect C. B. van der Tak had a reservoir of 1 million liters of drinking water, the largest in the Netherlands backdays. [2] The construction of a pipe system through which clean water could be transported was an important tool in the fight against cholera and other infectious diseases. The Rotterdam Drinking Water Company (DWL), founded in 1874, left for the Schaardijk in 1977 next to the Van Brienenoord Bridge and has since merged into the water company Evides.

The tower (now partly a restaurant), the pump houses and other outbuildings were declared a national monument in 1981.
