A position is available for a technician in the newly-established research group of Dimphna Meijer, Department of Bionanoscience, Delft University of Technology, the Netherlands. Start date can be between Oct – Dec 2018. 

The major research interest of the group is to investigate the development of the central nervous system on the nanoscale, specifically the formation of functional neural circuits, using a combination of cell biology, biochemistry and structural biology techniques. 

The successful candidate will be responsible for setting up cell cultures of primary and immortalized cell lines as well as establishing high-content screening microscopy for structure-function studies.

This is a laboratory-based position, but the successful candidate will also be expected to provide strategic input in setting up and optimizing structure-function assay pipelines. Applicants must be collaborative, diligent and well organized. In addition, they enjoy training other scientists and take pleasure in trouble-shooting.

Main functions:

  • Provide key support to cell culture and light microscopy experiments;
  • Provide strategic input in setting up structure-function studies;
  • Culturing of primary neural cell lines and immortalized cell lines;
  • Performing light microscopic high-content imaging.



Essential requirements:

  • Experience with mammalian cell cultures
  • Experience with fluorescence microscopy
  • Demonstrable teamworking and trouble-shooting skills
  • HBO / B.Sc. degree or similar


Desirable requirements: 

  • Experience with primary neural cell cultures
  • Familiarity with high content screening microscopy
  • Knowledge of protein expression and purification strategies


Salary Benefits:

This position has an amount of 30 - 38 working hours per week (0.8 – 1.0 fte). The offer contains a temporary appointment for one year with the prospect of extension. The salary is based on scale 8 with a maximum of € 3358,- gross per month on a fulltime basis.
