Assistant Professor of Spatial Planning & Strategy (Tenure-Track)

We are recruiting an Assistant Professor to strengthen and extend our research and education activities in the field of spatial planning & strategy. The successful candidate will join a department with a high global reputation and work in a team of highly committed and successful academics in spatial planning. Our work focuses on spatial development and governance-oriented research, and the development of the theoretical foundations of spatial planning. The work has strong ties with urban design, landscape architecture and environmental technology/3D geo-information.

The aim of the new position is to extend our teaching and research. The candidate will be expected to teach bachelor and master courses (BSc Bouwkunde, MSc track Urbanism, European Master in Urbanism and (in due time) take on course coordination and course development tasks. The candidate will also be expected to play an active role in research bids and funded projects, supervising PhD candidates and writing academic publications. This will require close collaboration with scholars in the department of Urbanism and/or the faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment, as well as with experts in different domains outside the university.

The expected start date is 1 January 2019, or as soon as possible.

 The candidate should:

  • hold a PhD degree in spatial planning or related fields;
  • have ample knowledge in spatial planning and strategy;
  • the ability to work with digital technology is an advantage;
  • have excellent academic skills, as demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications;
  • have strong (proven) didactic skills and teaching experience in BSc and MSc education;
  • preferably have experience in PhD supervision and writing research proposals;
  • have an affinity for or interest in (teaching/research) coordination tasks and for E-learning.

Salary Benefits:

A tenure-track position is offered for six years. Based on performance indicators agreed upon at the start of the appointment, a decision will be made by the fifth year on whether to offer you a permanent faculty position. Inspiring, excellent education and research is our central aim. If you have less than five years of teaching experience and do not yet have your teaching certificate, we allow you up to three years to obtain this. TU Delft sets specific standards for the English competency of the teaching staff. Candidates who do not speak Dutch are expected to have Dutch language skills within three years.
