4 Amsterdam-based cultural passes for locals and tourists

There are great nation-wide cultural memberships and passes to be enjoyed in the Netherlands, but Amsterdam’s inhabitants and visitors are lucky enough to have a few more to pick from.

Amsterdam's Cultural Passes

Whether you’re a local who wants to experience a varied and excitingly curated range of Amsterdam culture, or you simply want to save some money on cinema, there’s an option for you. If you are a tourist - or a local showing round some visitors - the short term passes will make your time easier, more interesting and more affordable.

I amsterdam City Card

With the I amsterdam City Card, visitors enjoy free or majorly discounted entry into Amsterdam’s world-famous museums, a complimentary canal cruise, free transport via bus, metro or tram, and discounts on attractions and restaurants. The offers extend to locations and services in Haarlem, Volendam, Marken and Enkhuizen.

Tickets are available for 24 hours to 72 hours, ranging between 49 euros and 69 euros.

Museumplein ticket

Another option for exploring four of Amsterdam’s most renowned cultural institutions is the Museumplein ticket. For 90 euros you can enjoy priority-lane entrance into the Rijksmuseum, Stedelijk Museum and Van Gogh Museum - as well as a concert of your choice at the Concertgebouw.

A classy option for short-term visitors to Amsterdam or a special treat for locals, the Museumplein ticket is available to purchase in most of city's five-star hotels, or alternatively at the Museumplein pavilion.

We Are Public

We Are Public is an Amsterdam-based culture platform offering its members free, or heavily discounted, access to over 30 monthly events - for just 15 euros a month.

Each month, a panel of experts across various cultural fields curate a selection of dance performances, theatre, films, concerts and exhibitions for We Are Public members.

Half of the membership fee goes directly to the cultural institutions collaborating with We Are Public, amongst which are the Concertgebouw, the Stedelijk Museum, Melkweg and De Balie.

Worried you’re grasp of the Dutch language will let you down, and you won’t be able follow? Whilst Dutch is the primary language across We Are Public’s communications - the monthly publication, website and social media - a large part of the programme of events is suitable for English speakers.

Sign up for We Are Public online, for a minimum of three months.

Stadspas

The Amsterdam Stadspas is an initiative designed to ensure access to culture, sport and recreation for those at risk of social or cultural isolation.

The card is free, and those who are entitled to it enjoy year-round discounts or free access in over 350 locations, as well as monthly coupons for additional events or facilities. Stadspas holders also receive the municipality’s newspaper "Amsterdam" delivered straight to their door.

The card is also available to residents of Diemen, Landsmeer and Oostzaan. Similar initiatives can be found in other Dutch cities.
