Queen's Day by the numbers

The last Queen's Day for the foreseeable future was a special day all across the Netherlands, as the country celebrated both it's most famous national holiday and the crowning of a new King.

Amsterdam was the place to be, however, as that was where the inauguration ceremony took place. Here is a round-up of the day in the capital, by the numbers:

Between 700.000 and 800.000 arrived in Amsterdam for the day, approximately the same number of people that came to the capital as last year.

There were, as expected, around 25.000 people on the Dam for the inauguration ceremony, while a similar number of people attended the Koningsbal on Museumplein.

There were a total of 84 arrests made by 10pm on the day, mostly for minor offences. This is drop of 42 percent compared to last year when there were 145 by the same time.

The number of accidents was also down by 32 percent, totalling 147 compared to 217 by 10pm last year. Most were caused by alcohol-intake.

The NS brought around 240.000 into the city via train, with 175.000 returning the same way.

There were around 250 ships on the Ij to take part in the Royal Boat Parade.

National broadcaster NOS has reported that 6,6 million people watched the inauguration of Willem-Alexander on the television.

At midnight, 100 municipality employees began the clean-up operation, starting at Central Station before fanning out across the city.
