Visa in the Netherlands

Since 1995, all people who:

originate from the Schengen Area (Austria,
Belgium, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland,
France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Italy,
Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta,
Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain,
Sweden, Switzerland, and the Netherlands),
have a valid proof of identification (not driving
license
),
afford at least 34 euros per day of stay
are able to justify (with official papers) the
reason of visit

are not considered to threaten national
security, public order and international relations

may visit the Netherlands for a short stay (90
days) without any official permission (i.e. visa).

All non-EU/EEA/Swiss citizens need to report to
the local Aliens Police within three days of their
arrival in the Netherlands (both short and long
stay allowance). Call 0900-8844 to ask for
contact details or just advice your host
institution.

Moreover, for a stay of more than 90 days, you
must register with the municipality
(Gemeentelijke Basisadministratie) within five
days of your arrival and apply for a
residence
permit
. If you are a prospective student, the
university may apply for the permit on your
behalf.

If you are planning on studying in one of the
worldwide famous
Dutch universities, you must
definitely visit the
Student Visa Wizard, which
clarifies all the necessary procedures you should
use, if any. In most cases, the same procedures
apply for prospective employees.
