What are cookies?

How does use cookies?

When you join IamExpat, we generate cookies that signal whether you are logged in or not. Our servers use these cookies to work out which account you are signed in with. It also allows us to associate any comments you post with your username. If you have not selected "remember me," your cookies get deleted when you either close your browser or shut down your computer.

 Third-party cookies
On some pages of, third parties may set their own cookies, for the purposes of tracking the success of their application, or customising the application for you. For example, when you share an article using a social media sharing button on, the social network that has created the button will record that you have done this.

Also, we sometimes embed video content from websites such as YouTube and Vimeo. As a result, when you visit a page with content embedded from one of these sites you may be presented with cookies from that website. Projekt 45 does not control the dissemination of these cookies and you should check the relevant third-party website for more information about them.

How to turn off cookies
It is usually possible to stop your browser accepting cookies, or to stop it accepting cookies from a particular website, via the settings of your browser.
