16 August 2014, 12pm - 11pm
Utrecht becomes a blur of blues, yellows, purples, greens and more when the Mumbai Color Festival comes to Fort Vechten, bringing with it the Hindu powder throwing tradition of Holi!
Mumbai Color Festival in Utrecht
Meant as a celebration of love, Holi is observed mainly in India and Nepal by Hindus. One of the most well-known parts of Holi is the ceremonious throwing of gulal, a coloured powder.
Increasingly adopted by other areas of Asia and the West, this colour throwing has become a powerful symbol of love, peace and a free-spirited mentality.
For the event in Utrecht, coloured powder can be bought on the grounds and visitors will throw it into the air and at each other to the sounds of pumping electronic music!
This is all for a good cause, however, as part of the proceeds from the festival will be going to Mumbai Atma, a charity that looks to provide children in India with access to education.
