Dutch Harp Festival 2014
The first Dutch Harp Festival was held in Utrecht in 2010 as a meeting place for harp enthusiasts, composers and innovators in the fields of classical and folk music.
Since then, the festival has become an annual highlight on Utrecht's event calendar, attracting an international audience and a mix of contemporary and classical performers.
This year's theme is "Storytelling" and seeks to highlight the harpist's role in conveying information. Under the artistic guidance of Remy van Kesteren, the 2014 edition of the Dutch Harp Festival will feature, amongst the many harpists, appearances by choreographer Hans van Manen, writer/poet Kees van Kooten and soprano Claron McFadden.
One of the features of the festival is the Dutch Harp Competition for both performers and composers, in which original pieces are presented, performed and judged by an independent jury.
