Book Festival (Boekenfestijn) in UtrechtFairs / Utrecht
May 08-11 2014, Thurs-Sat 10am - 9pm/ Sun 10am - 6pm
The Book Festival (Boekenfestijn) is a large touring fair that offers thousands of books and assorted hobby items at locations throughout the Netherlands and Belgium.
The strategy of the fair is straight forward: book stores and other institutions often buy books with a right to return surplus copies of books to the publishers. After the first run, the books that were returned can be put on the market with large discounts. The Book Festival purchases these copies and passes the savings onto the consumers.
The Book Festival also imports books, hobby-related items, CDs and other goods from the UK and the US, meaning there is a good selection of English-language products on offer.
With such a variety, the books are rotated each day to ensure the selection at the festival will always be a bit different.
The books and items are arranged on large tables according to categories and disciplines, making browsing a pleasant experience.
The prices of the items on offer are also sharply discounted, ranging from 60 to 90 per cent off. For example, there is always a large selection of popular literature on sale from just 1,50 euro.
