The Hague Shakespeare Festival 2013Theater / The Hague
19 November - 01 December
This winter, The Hague will play host to the first Shakespeare Festival held in the Netherlands.
Over the course of a fortnight, actors from the Netherlands, the USA and the UK will perform a total of 12 different Shakespeare plays.
This festival is the result of collaborations between world-class actors, internationally famous directors and highly prestigious theatre companies.
It kicks off on November 19 with the Dutch premiere of "The Rape of Lucrece".
Despite Shakespeare's academic reputation, this promises to be an accessible and enjoyable festival for everyone - Shakesperian scholars and theatrical novices alike.
The daily programme will be interspersed with several "impromptus": short and surprising pop-up performances to keep visitors entertained. There's also the chance to have tea with Lady Macbeth!
A special version of "Much Ado About Nothing" will even keep young children entertained.
As a result, the programme will feature exciting and unusual takes on otherwise well-known and traditional plays.
