Thousands of historical sites, buildings and monuments will open their doors to the public free of charge during European Heritage Days (Open Monumentdag) in September.
Additionally, many of nearly 4.000 participating sites will host fun activities, exhibitions, tours and even musical performances during the two-day occasion.
As one of the Netherlands’ most popular cultural days, this annual event has been known to draw a big crowd, with nearly 900.000 visitors in recent years.
In line with its theme "Power and Splendour," the 2013 edition will bring attention to the country’s beauty in combination with the political and economic power found in sites like castles, canal houses and grand estates.
With so many supporters enjoying historical and cultural awareness events, Open Monumentdag also enhances community support and awareness for significant historical locations throughout the Netherlands.
