Groningen based Noorderlicht Photography is returning to the Fries Museum in Leeuwarden for the 21st edition of their Noorderlicht Photo Festival!
About Noorderlicht Photo Festival 2014
Produced in cooperation with the Singapore Internaitonal Photography Festival, the main exhibition of the festival will is inspired by the work of Frisian native Jan Slauerhoff.
A Dutch poet and novelist, Slauerhoff is considered one of the most important writers in the Netherlands, discussing themes related to poverty, alternative manners of perception and individuals who determine their own lives in the face of the status quo.
Building on these themes, the Noorderlicht Photo Festival will present An Ocean of Possibilities, which will centre on work founded on freedoms that inspire or encourage individuals to do something new.
Tomasz Tomaszewski, ELMINA, Ghana
Katharina Fitz, Urban Gardening Patchwork
Extending this line of thought, the festival will looks at themes that relate to way contemporary society is being shifted and changed through the use of these freedoms. Issues such as the effect of grassroots movements, the renewed importance of the everyday and back to nature ideals will also be points of engagement.
