International photography festival BredaPhoto returns to locations around Breda for more than a month of inspiring exhibitions and gallery shows under the theme Songs From the Heart, an investigation of Romanticism in the contemporary sense.
BredaPhoto gets Romantic
The artists chosen to participate in BredaPhoto will be displaying works that relate to the theme of New Romanticism.
Roughly speaking, New Romanticism refers to the attitudes and discussions surrounding how the movement of Romanticism has evolved according to 21st century conditions and situations.
Unlike Romanticism seen at the end of the 18th and early 19th century, New Romanticism involves the same ideals (desire for the unique, authentic and sincere), but is forced to be carried out in the face of an increasingly homogenous and globalized culture.
Using the multifaceted concept of Romanticism as its entry point, the participating photographers have been invited to explore the theme according to three topics: Romanticism as a historic and artistic movement, the New Romanticism and Real versus fake.
