Vincent Moon: Indie at Heart
Born in Paris in 1979, Vincent Moon (real name Mathieu Saura) initially studied photography at Atelier Reflexe in Montreuil where he met Michael Ackerman and Antoine D'Agata.
These two would profoundly influence the experimental nature and visual style of Moon's future cinematic work.
Moon began making films in 2005 using a mix of intimate storytelling and a variety of recording techniques, ranging from super 8 to cell-phone cameras.
In 2006, Moon created the "Take Away Shows" project and recorded hundreds of outdoor video sessions with musicians including REM, Arcade Fire, Tom Jones and Sigur Ros.
This project is the source of his love for mixing film and music.
Moon would go on to create MIROIR NOIR following Arcade Fire, LA FAUTE DES FLEURS following Japanese cult artist Kazuki Tomokawa, and BURNING surrounding Glasgow cult post rockers Mogwai.
Since 2010, Moon has been living as a nomad, travelling the world to question established norms and visual representations of the "other."
