About the Offscreen Film Festival
Taking place annually in Brussels, the Offscreen Film Festival specialises in the work of independent filmmakers, cult classics and other off-beat or alternative genres of film.
Organised by association Marcel, Offscreen has emerged as an alternative platform for independent audio-visual artists and avant-garde cinema.
The event has built a loyal following and features an expertly curated programme of B-movies, camp, trash, exploitation and other forms of lesser known cinema.
Each year Melkweg screens a selection of these films in Amsterdam. This year, the guest of honour is erotica film maker Radley Metzger, whose 1970s masterpieces integrate erotic fantasy, drug-fuelled parties and other libertarian notions into compelling films.
Four of Metzger's films will be screened, among others including two classic animation films by Giasburo Sugii and the premiers of Computer Chess (a man versus machine showdown) and A Field in England (featuring magic mushrooms and the ensuing psychadelics).
Still from A Field in England, 2013, Ben Wheatley
Thumb: Still from Camille 2000, 1969, Metzger
Still from Score, 1974, Radley Metzger
