The world music and multicultural Amsterdam Roots Festival will be holding its 32nd edition with the Roots Open Air, moving to its new location on Java Island!
What is Amsterdam Roots?
The Amsterdam Roots Festival is one steeped in history.
Beginning in 1983 as the Africa Roots Festival, the organisers introduced major names in the African music scene to Dutch audiences.
Evolving to the Amsterdam Roots Meeting in 1987, the festival developed into a trip around the world through music, expanding genres and the diversity of regions where artists came from.
With the growth of the genre "world music," the Amsterdam Roots Festival is one the prides itself on diversity, not only in music, but also in festive dancing, foods and visitors.
The festival is now divided into two portions: Roots Indoor and Roots Outdoor.
Roots Indoor is a lead-up series of performances from artists around the world at presitigous venues throughout the Dutch capital.
Roots Outdoor is the culminating one-day festival that offers stands three different stages, music from around the globe and a massive market selling food and products from various cultures.
For the 17th edition of Amsterdam Roots Festival, there is an expected audience of 10.000 to 15.000 visitors, making it one of the most important multi-cultural festivals in the Netherlands.
Amsterdam Roots Indoor Artists 2014
From July 2-5, an eclectic mix of artists from Africa, South America and the Middle East will be playing at venues around Amsterdam.

Amsterdam Roots Open Air Artists 2014
Taking place for the first time on Java Island, the Amsterdam Roots Open Air has become internationally known for its diverse mix of music and international atmosphere. This year, the world renowned Youssou N'dour and his complete orchestra Le Super Etoile de Dakar will be flying in from Senegal as the headliner!
