William Klein at FoamExhibitions / Amsterdam
19 December 2013 - 12 March, 10am - 6pm (9pm Thursday and Friday)
This winter, Foam will be taken over by a retrospective exhibition on William Klein, one of the art world's most famous multi-taskers.
Klein's hugely influential career spans more than 60 years and multiple disciplines. He is famous for his innovative and pioneering work in the field of photography, design and films.
He is perhaps most famous for his ruthless and gritty pictures of cities (notably New York, Paris and Tokyo), which showed that photography could serve as social commentary.
Klein is also an award-winning director who made hundreds of advertisments, feature films and documentaries.
A selection of these will be shown in Foam's 3h library space.
All of the pieces on display are carefully chosen to give a thorough representation of this artist's extensive career.
This exhibition is especially exciting as the last Dutch display of Klein's work took place at the Stedelijk in 1967. Klein himself will attend the opening on December 19.
