Have you ever wondered what Amsterdam sounded like throughout the last century?

The Amsterdam Museum presents Soundscapes Amsterdam, an interactive installation exploring the changes in sounds of the city.

Visitors can experience how it sounded on the Dam around 1895, 1935 and 2012 using authentic soundscapes like carts, clocks, carriages and cars.

George Hendrik Breitner, "De Dam," 1898

In combination with a mix of the city’s sounds throughout the last 150 years, visitors can learn more about how city dwellers coped with noise and silence and how sounds changed during World War Two.
