Julidans 2014Dance / Amsterdam
July 01-12, Various times
Julidans, the summer festival for international contemporary dance, returns to Amsterdam on July 1 to kick-off a 12 day showcase of the rising stars and marginal starlets of the modern dance world!
Julidans: contemporary & innovative
Each year at the beginning of July the venues and theatres around Amsterdam are taken over by the programme of Julidans.
Focusing on the avant-garde, innovative and thought-provoking, Julidans gives the creative edges of the dance world a platform on which to showcase their latest projects and performances.
Not limited by any region or genre, audiences can expect to see dancers hailing from Africa, Asia, South America, the Middle East and more performing mixes, genre-blurring and modern takes on various dance styles.
More than just performances, the festival maintains an intimate feel in which the audience and members of the industry have a chance to meet and interact with the dancers, producers and choreographers.
For dance enthusiasts, the NEXT portion of Julidans is certainly a programme to pay attention to as it offers some of the freshest premiers and performances from developing pioneers of the industry.
A hot-bed of talent, Julidans is a well-curated look at the developments, progression and debates in the modern dance scene.

Julidans 2014 highlights
As always, this year's edition of Julidans is packed with talented choreographers, dancers and performers. Here's a sample of what to expect!
› Untitled Feminist Show | Young Jean Lee. Korean-American Lee takes on sexist stereotypes with six stars from underground theatre in this dark-humour production.
› D'après une histoire vraie | Christian Rizzo. Frenchman Rizzo has created a piece inspired by eight dancing men about balancing toughness and vulnerability by combining popular Mediterranean folk dance with the sounds of instense drums.
› Siena | Marcos Morau. Using the set of a museum gallery, this contemplative piece is an exploration of the human body and conceptions of it throughout history.
› Holiday on stage | Martin Schick & Damir Todorovic. Part of the NEXT platform, this humorous piece addresses the question of what constitutes being an artist in Western society as of late.
