About "War and Peace: From Dakar to Amsterdam" | 7.30pm
The dance follows seven hip-hop dancers from Senegal, Gabon and the Netherlands who make the journey from Dakar to Amsterdam after first meeting up in 2012. This dance is a collaboration between Amsterdam-based dance group Don’t Hit Mama and Ecole des Sables, an amazing dance centre in Senegal.
Nita Liem and Bart Deuss from Don’t Hit Mama, Patrick Acogny from Ecole des Sables and the dancers set off into battle together, armed with a potent mix of hip-hop and African dance.
About "Songook Yakar" | 9pm
The title of this solo performance by West African dancer, choreographer and teacher Germaine Acogny translates to "Facing Up to Hope." Germaine Acogny created this collaboration with her "artistic family" (Pierre Doussaint, Fabrice Bouillon, Bernard Mounier and Fred Koenig).
Throughout this performance, Germaine Acogny speaks with her body and her gestures. Her dance brings the audience to meet her Africa, its leaders, its people and today's life that shows there is hope in spite of disasters and ignorance.
