Lakenfeesten is a traditional summer festival held in the centre of Leiden.
Lakenfeesten translates to lake festival. The title comes from Leiden’s old nickname, city lake, and its programme is designed to celebrate Leiden’s rich history and lively atmosphere.
Lakenfeesten festival takes place over four days every summer, usually coinciding with the city’s popular Culinair Festival.
Activities on offer
Lakenfeesten officially commemorates Leiden’s former textile industry, but many of the celebrations have little to do with textiles.
This festival is filled with everything from live music to dragonboat racing. It even has its own cattle fair, a busking contest and a glorious boat parade!
